“That’s criminal! A sheer waste! This perfume could have been sold for well over a year’s wages and handed over to the poor’ They swelled in anger, nearly bursting with indignation over her.
But Jesus said ‘Let her alone. Why are you giving her a hard time? She has just done something wonderfully significant for me” (Mark 14:5-6)MSG.
Have someone ever asked you “Are you the only one here?” Have you ever been accused of doing a particular thing in other to show off?
Have you been called a fool because you made a sacrifice in the house of God? What was your response? It is likely that you didn’t have a ready response.
That was the case of the woman in the above scripture. She felt that our Lord Jesus deserves the best! That was why she did him the honour of anointing him with the alabaster ointment. Instead of the people around to appreciate her effort, she was criticized and called a fool. Unfortunately she didn’t have the courage of justifying her actions. Had Jesus not intervened, may be, she would have been discouraged.
Another man in the scripture faced the same situation. His name was David. When his wife (Michal) berated him for dancing in public for God, David had an answer to give
“And David said unto Michal, it was before the Lord which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.(2 Sam 6:21)KJV.
Michal did not understand the miracle that God performed on the day that David fought with Goliath. She didn’t know that it was God that delivered David from the hand of (her father) Saul. She never understood the divine mathematics that made a shepherd boy to become a king.
However, David understood all that. Little wonder why he danced as if he was the only one in that occasion.
In the same vein, many people don’t understand the battles that God had fought in your life. Those battles he fought and won could be your motivating factor. May be that was the reason you make sacrifices for him. Could that be your reason for dancing in his presence with care free abandonment?
When next someone confronts you with the above question or accusation, be ready to give an answer.
* Open your mouth and testify that Jesus died on the cross of Calvary for your sins.
* Share the testimony of that life threatening accident that God delivered you from.
* Don’t forget to tell of that child birth that nearly marked your end but for the mercy of God.
* He or she does not know that you were poisoned but God delivered you. Of course you don’t mind sharing the experience.
* Are they aware that the same doctor that declared you a barren woman is now advising you on the family planning method to adopt? Why not tell them.
In my opinion, the God that did all these deserves something wonderfully significant. Your testimony is overdue; go ahead and share it. If you do, even a doubting thomas will be convinced that God alone deserves your alabaster box!
