God addressed Samuel: “So, how long are you going to mope over Saul? You know I’ve rejected him as king over Isreal. Fill your flask with anointing oil and get going. I’m sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I’ve spotted the very king I want among his sons”(1 Samuel 16:1MSG)
For God to send prophet Samuel to go and anoint a new king, it means that it was all over for king Saul. God has made his choice and there nothing any one can do about it. However that anointing was preparation for the assignment ahead, it was not a command to go and wrestle the throne from King Saul.
If God wanted David to take over the ruling of the kingdom immediately he was anointed king, God would have terminated the life of Saul. But because Saul had a great role to play in preparing David for the throne, that was why God left him alive.
The bible recorded that immediately David was anointed king, the Spirit of God came upon him. But the Spirit of God departed from Saul and an evil spirit troubled him. For that reason David was sent to the palace not to become king but to be his armour bearer and to play harp for him.
While in the palace David acquired administrative skills. He also sharpened his war skills. When Saul decided to become an enemy to David, it was also another training ground. The stress that David went through hiding from one place or the other made him a strong man . it also drew him closer to God.
Though David was able to achieve things that Saul could not dare, it did not make him to despise his king. It was so glaring that Saul has missed the track yet David still recognize him as the Lords anointed.
And he said unto them, the Lord forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch forth my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord(1sam 24:6)
Please! do not kill your Saul no matter the pressure from friends and well wishers. Not matter how bad your Saul is, there is still something good to gain from him. If you kill him and take over without proper preparation, the sit may end up becoming too hot for you.
It is obvious that the people with David the day he was anointed king would have pressurized him to do the normal thing( take over the throne by force). His men even told him that God hath delivered Saul into his hand to do unto him as he wish. David refused to bow to the pressures.
And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the Lord said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe privily. And it came to pass afterward, that David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt. And he said unto his men, The Lord forbid that I should do this unto my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch forth my mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord .(1 Sam 24:4-6)
Someone might have told you that you are better than your boss intellectually. They may be pushing you to break away and start you on business. They may even push you into starting your own ministry. But beware! Even if that is the will of God for you, is it the appointed time?
At God’s time, He makes everything beautiful.
At God’s time, everything works together for your own good.
At the set time of God, he will command both heavenly and earthly elements to bow for you.
David did not help God to choose him, so he doesn’t need to help God to mount the throne.
The God that helped you to gain employment in the company, has the power to work out your promotion. Why are you cutting corners? Whatever is yours will surely become yours as far as you are in the right track with God.
Wait on God, wait for his signal. Wait for your time, it will surely come. Be patient and do it God’s way. You will be amazed at the result.
It pays to wait at his command.
Let us pray!
