Back then in school, some lecturers made jest of girls who were not bright academically. They would tell them to stop wasting their time and look for truck pushers who would marry them. These lecturers also told boys in the same category that they would end up as motor park touts or bus conductors.
But experience has taught me that things don’t always turn out as were predicted or expected. Some of those girls ended up getting married to very successful men. Some of the boys are occupying powerful positions in enviable sectors of the economy.
That took me to what the Preacher said in Ecclesiastes 9:11 “ I returned, and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all”
In the same vein Paul the Apostle wrote in the book of Romans 9:16 “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy”
I trust that by now, we understand that this year is neither going to be, by our might nor by our power. It will be, by the mercy of God. We may not know what the year holds; but we know He, who holds the year. He will surely carry us through.
My prayer is that His grace will find us and continually speak for us each day of this year. Amen!
Shalom!
