Ese saw her mum holding Itohan’s neck tightly with her 2 hands while Itohan tried to free herself from her grip.

She shouted and her mum left Itohan who was already gasping for breath. She ran to hold Itohan till she became stable.

Her mother stood and placed her 2 hands on her waist as if she was ready for another round of fight.

“Mummy what is the meaning of this? Do you want to kill her?” Ese asked in anger.

“Yes! She cannot end my son’s life and continue to walk around freely. She must pay for her evil deed .”

“Is this why you came to my house?” Ese asked in wonder.

“You must be very stupid to ask me that kind of question. Why did you think that I came here. Did I come for merriment?”

Ese’s husband came in and asked what the matter was.

“Could you believe that I met mummy, trying to strangle Itohan?”Ese explained.

“That can’t be possible. Iye can’t do such thing,”her husband responded.

“I did it. I will not rest until she join my son in that place she sent him to,” She said firmly.

“Mummy, you did this kind of thing in my house?” Ese’s husband asked in wonder.

“Donatus shut up your mouth! Which house are you calling your house. This is my daughter’s house and I can do whatever I feel like doing in it.”

“Iye what did you just say?” Ese’s husband asked her.

“I say that this house belongs to my daughter. She built it before she met you. How did it become your house?”

“Iye, you have overstayed your welcome. Please, leave my house” Ese shouted in anger.

“Ese, you are asking me to leave your house because of Itohan. You have chosen Itohan over your only brother. No problem, I will go, but the kindred must hear this,”her mum threatened.

“Report to whoever you want to report to. You want to commit murder in my house. First, Eric was killed in this house. I am still trying to unravel the mystery. Now you want put another case on my head. God forbid. Please go to your house.”

“I will go, but you have not heard the last from me. Itohan must swear before an oracle that she did not have a hand in my son’s death.”

“Iye that is not possible! Itohan will not appear before any shrine, not when I’m alive,” Ese vowed.

“Ese do you want to dare me! We shall see,” her mum told her on and stormed out in anger.

Itohan let out a shout of agony and Ese tried to console her.

Ada didn’t know the reason for her arrest until she was taken to the interrogation room where a policewoman interrogated her.

“Before I start asking the few questions I want to ask you, I want you to know that police is your friend. Feel free and talk to me. In few minutes we will be through so that you can be released to go,” she informed Ada.

“It’s okay. But why are you with a voice recorder? I will not be free to talk if it is switched on,” Ada said firmly.

It’s okay. Let me take it away,”the policewoman told her.

She went to keep the voice recorder but Ada didn’t know that the spectacle she wore can record voices. She came back and started asking Ada questions.

“Do you know anyone that goes by the name ‘Eric’?”

“I know many people that goes by that name. Is that why you brought me to your station?” Ada asked.

“Which of the Eric’s that you know is close to you?”

Ada became suspicious and decided to play smart.

“There is no Eric that is close to me.”

“Are you trying to say that you don’t have any friend that is called Eric?”

“I don’t have such friend,”Ada said firmly.

“It’s okay. But who is Eric Uwabor?”the police woman asked.

“He is my former boyfriend,” Ada answered.

“But you said that you don’t have to any friend that is called Eric?”

“I forgot,” Ada answered in anger.

“When was the last time the 2 of you met?”

” May be 6 0r 7 months ago?”

“Just 6 months and you have forgotten about it?”

“Why are you asking me these questions? Did you just bring me here to ask about Eric?” Ada asked in anger and stood up.

The Police woman ignored her attitude and kept interrogating her.

“When was the last time you travelled out of this town?”

“I can’t remember?” Ada responded with a frowned face.

“When was the last time you called Eric on phone?”

“I cannot remember. Please, I am done with this interrogation. Allow me to go.”

“You were seen at the motor park last week? Where did you go to?”

“I am not answering further questions, until you tell me why you brought me here?”Ada said firmly

The policewoman smiled and told Ada to cooperate with her for her good.

” The motor park you were seen is were people board vehicles that go to the city where Eric lives. Were you going to see him or you have another mission?”

“I am a free citizen of this country. I have the right to move to any part of this country without obstruction. Why are you querying me concerning my movement,” Ada thundered, while hitting the table in anger

“That right remains legal, as far as it does not cause harm to another person. We asked you the last time you called Eric on phone. You said that you cannot remember. But a check through his network providers call log showed that you called his phone number severally last week. That was the same day that he died?”

“Is Eric dead?” Ada asked as her whole body was shaking.

“I should be asking you that question. When you hit him with a hard object and left him in a pool of his blood. Did you expect him to survive it?” The police woman said while raising the tempo of her voice.

“I did not kill Eric. He was my boy friend. When I heard that he has gotten married to another woman, I decided to go and meet him. I got to the city where he was living but it was hard for me to trace him. Before going, I bought a new sim and registered it because he blocked the former phone number that I was using to communicate with him.I called his phone and he answered the phone call. When he discovered that I was the one, he ended the call. Afterwards, I tried severally to call his phone number but he ignored my call. ”

“So you killed him because he disappointed you?”

“No I don’t even know his house.”

“Can you listen to yourself? He is your lover, yet you don’t know his house,” the police woman said in a mockery tone.

“He has been the one visiting me,” Ada replied in fear.

“You don’t visit him, but you know his mother’s house. How can you reconcile that?”

“I did not cause any harm to Eric, I can’t even hurt a fly,” Ada said in tears.

“Really. But you told her mother that if he did not not marry you, she would cry over him. Didn’t you say so?”

“It was an empty threat . I didn’t mean it. Ha! I’m in trouble,”Ada lamented.

“Ofcourse, you are in real trouble. You have to say the truth so that we can help you.”

“I am already telling you the truth. I did not kill Eric. Please have mercy on me,” Ada cried.

“I will surely have mercy on you. Just give me the details of how it happened. Did you do it by yourself or you paid people to do it for you.?”

Tears filled Ada’s eyes.
