The Infallible Detective (Episode 42)
Everything happened so fast. The traditional wedding was concluded and the wedding took place too. The wedding of Uloma and Obinna was the talk of the town. After the wedding, elder and Mrs. Paul invited Obinna and Uloma for a discussion. They were wondering why they were invited untill he started talking.
“I want to congratulate both of you for finding each other. I also have some advice and appeal to make. Obinna, I want you to know that Uloma is precious to me. Though she is not my biological daughter, yet she has equal right in this household with you and Ngozi, even before you married her. I gave my consent to the relationship because I believed that you will take care of her. If she offends you please forgive her. But if she do the one you cannot endure, bring her back to me. Please, don’t lay your hands on her. Have I made myself clear?”
“Yes sir,”Obinna responded.
“Uloma is a good girl, but I am not promising you that she will not misbehave. Even if she misbehaves, correct her in love. Treat her as your younger sister.”
Obinna and Uloma started laughing.
“What’s funny?” Their dad asked.
“She muttered that we are age mates,” Obinna explained.
“Infact I made a mistake. You are now her her father. Treat her as your daughter,” Elder Paul said.
Obinna stood and started clapping,” I respect you daddy,” he said even as Uloma was laughing.
“Both of you should respect yourselves and allow my husband to talk,” Mrs. Paul reprimanded them.
They had no choice than to keep quiet.
“Should I continue,” Elder Paul asked jokingly.
“Yes daddy,” they chorused.
“Uloma, I hope you know that Obinna is my only son?”
“I am aware of that daddy.”
“Please take care of him the way your mother has been taking care of me. Don’t be a troublesome wife. Don’t listen to bad advices. I am sure that Obinna will take care of you. Fear will not allow him to misbehave because if he do, I will skin him alive.” Obinna didn’t allow him to complete what he was saying before protesting mildly.
“Daddy, ha!” Obinna exclaimed.
“What are you shouting for?”
“You and mummy are always supporting Uloma. I thought you are advising her on how to take of me. You have shifted the thing to me again,” Obinna protested.
Uloma busted out laughing.
“Keep laughing, you will pay for all your sins when you come to America,” Obinna threatened.
“Can I make my appeal now” Elder Paul asked.”
“Yes daddy.”
“Obinna please. I don’t want my company to go into extinction; I suffered for it. Ngozi and her husband are now living in United Kingdom. If you also carry Uloma and go, what happens to the company that I willed to her?”
“Daddy we have already discussed it. I and my wife agreed that we are finally coming back to Nigeria by next year. It was a hard decision for me to make but I have to do it because of her. She doesn’t want to abandon the company.”
“Ah! My children, you have taken care of my worry. Uloma God bless you!”
” All these ones does not concern me, what Concerns me is the omugwo. Just do fast and give birth,” Mrs. Paul told them.
Uloma and Obinna looked at themselves and laughed.

A week after the wedding, Obinna went back to America and Uloma continued to process her travelling documents to join him.
She had earlier started a building project for her father, so she wanted to know everything that was needed for the completion of the project. She called the architect on phone and scheduled a meeting with him.
She also scheduled a meeting with her brother Ejike in their house, to discuss ways help Ejike.
As the discussion was going on, their parents and Ujunwa also joined them in the living room.
“What exactly do you want,” Uloma asked Ejike.
“I want to travel out of the country for further studies?”
“At this age, when you should be thinking of how to get married,” Uloma teased and they laughed.
“But sister, I am just 26 years old.”
“And your mind is telling you that you are a baby. Anyway, if it is your wish, it is done. I will transfer a huge sum of money to your account to enable you start the process,” Uloma promised.
” No problem sister. When my travelling documents are ready, I will give the money back to you.”
“For what? It is yours. You have always been my personal person . I was expecting you to ask for a house in banana island. But you are not in the Spirit,” Uloma joked.
“Sister, I trust you. I know that you are a giver. I don’t need to be making outrageous demand. If you have it, then it is mine.” Ejike responded
As they were talking, Ujunwa kept stretching her neck towards them. Later, she managed to say,”Sister, I am here o ”
“Uju, think about the business you want to do and tell me the amount it will take. Meet house agents, find out a shop that is available for sale so that I can buy it for you. If the shop belongs to you. It will help your business to grow. You won’t be thinking of money to pay shop rent,” Uloma told her.
Ujunwa leaped in joy.
“Ah! Sister God bless you,” Ujunwa said even as tears of joy flowed from her eyes.
“I will like you do the business in a big way, so that you can be able to take care of your children. Please search for house too. I will pay for the rent.”
“It is a lie. You are not renting any house for her. ” Their mother opposed.
Uloma stood immediately,” Ujunwa you heard what I said, call me on phone for further discussion,” Uloma said firmly.
“But sister, I would have liked to follow you. I want to establish the business near the place you are living,” Ujunwa suggested.
“No. You will establish it here,” Uloma said firmly.
“Don’t mind her, thief. She want to follow you so that she will go and rob you,” their mother accused.
“Mummy please, it’s okay. Leave Ujunwa alone for now. When we go, both of you can start again.” Ejike pleaded.
“My dear son, it is not okay. While you were in school, did Ujunwa ever give you any money? She was enjoying alone. Now , she want to reap where she did not sow.”
“But mummy, you enjoyed with her,” Ejike told her.
“Is it the one that I collected by force,”she defended herself.
“What matters is that you spent the money with her ,” Ejike insisted.
Uloma was already at the door and beckoned on Ejike to join her.
When they got outside, Uloma told him,” I’m tired of this rift between mummy and Ujunwa. What do we do?”
“Sister, there is nothing we can do. It is nemesis that is catching up with them. Please allow them to enjoy the fruit of their labour.”
****************
When Uloma travelled back to her base, she was surprised to see Itohan in the house, waiting for her.
“Fine girl, what are you doing here,” Uloma reached out to her with smiles.
“I’m good. I have been here for a while. I tried reaching you on phone but it didn’t go through. Though your mum assured me that you would be back soon,” Itohan responded. She was all smiles that Uloma wondered what could be making her so happy.
“Our latest owiaha. I can’t wait to join you soon,” Itohan said in excitement.
” Hmm! I.T It’s like somebody’s son has found you o?” Uloma teased.
“Not really. But the signs are clear,” Itohan said with smiles.
“I.T you are speaking in parables. You better open up let’s plan together before I japa. Is it someone that I know?” Uloma asked.
“O yes!”
“So who is the person?”
“It’s my Stanford o…”
“Wow! Are you telling me that Stanford proposed marriage to you?”Uloma asked in surprise.
“Not really, but his body language shows that he is interested in me.”
“What do you mean by body language?” Uloma queried.
“I know what I’m saying. He has given me all the signs. It’s just for him to say it.”
“Anyway, congratulations in advance, you deserve to be happy.”
“Thanks dear. I am planning to go and share the goodnews with aunty Ese,” Itohan revealed.
“Please, take it easy. What is a good news to you , might not be good news to another person. Remember that it is not up to a year that Eric died. I am not saying that you should not move on with your life. But please apply wisdom and be prayerful too,” Uloma advised.
“You are right. But I have a question. If Stanford propose marriage to me, should I tell him to give me some time or I should just agree?”
“Do you expect me to answer that question,”Uloma asked.
“Yes na, I need your advice,” Itohan said firmly.
” Gettat,”Uloma told her jokingly.
“I know that you are jealous,” Itohan joked. She suddenly looked at her phone and announced, “Stanford is calling me, let me take the call.”
