Painful Wish (Episode 2)
Mrs. Smith was relaxing in her living room when she heard a beep from her phone. On a closer look, she discovered that it was one of the security personnel’s on duty.
” Good afternoon madam. Somebody dey for gate. She talk sey she be Nnenna friend.”
Mrs. Smith was surprised because that was an unusual occurrence. Since Nnenna started working for them, that was her first time of having a visitor.
“It’s okay, lead her in.”
Within few minutes, the security personnel led Joyce into the Smith’s living room.
“Good afternoon ma,” Joyce greeted with a bow.
“Good afternoon young lady. How can we help you?”
” My name is Joyce, I am Nnenna’s friend. I am passing by today and I decided to say hello. I want to really appreciate you ma. God will bless you. My friend has been telling me how you have been taking good care of her. I made up my mind that I will surely make out time to come and say thank you.”
“It’s alright. Nnenna” Mrs. Smith called. “Please come. You have a visitor.”
“Nnenna was shocked and dumbfounded when she came out and saw Joyce in the sitting room.”
“Hello sweet sis. I was passing by and decided to say hello. I am so sorry for the other day, I couldn’t make it as promised.”
“It’s okay, no problem,” Nnenna answered, while wondering what Joyce was talking about.
“Wow! who made this hair for you? It’s really nice.” Nnenna complimented Joyce. She went close to her as if she wanted to go and see the hair. Then she asked her in a low voice, “What are you doing here? What is the meaning of this?”
Joyce placed her palms together as a sign of pleading.
“Nnenna, won’t you make your friend comfortable? Please get her a drink and food” Mrs. Smith told Nnenna.
She turned to Joyce.
“My dear, please sit down.”
“Thank you ma.” She quickly sat on a chair. She was relieved that Mrs. Smith has saved the day for her.
As Nnenna walked back to the kitchen, she was just wondering what Joyce was up to. However, she made up her mind not to discourage her from working for the Smith’s if she really wish to.
By the time Joyce was through with the fried rice, chicken and cold fruit juice that she was served, she made up her mind that she must find her way into the Smith’s household.
“Ma, I must appreciate you again for the way you are taking care of my friend. Many of us really wish to be in her shoes,” Joyce told Mrs. Smith. She wanted to stylishly make Mrs. Smith know that was available for work.
“Really?”
“Yes ma I am seriously searching for job. Please ma, if you know any one that needs my service please connect me.”
Mrs. Smith smiled to herself. She had been having sleepless nights about how to get a replacement for Nnenna. Somebody that is desperate like Joyce is the only person that can work for them. She remembered how the person that came before Nnenna ran away. That was why she and her husband had to find a special means to hold Nnenna down.
“Nnenna, please help me get my phone from my room. I need to reach my husband. Please search for it very well, I don’t know the exact place I dropped it.”
“Okay ma.” Nnenna smiled to herself she knew that her madam purposely sent her away.
“It’s okay, we actually need someone because Nnenna is going very soon. We have tried for her.
She has been with us for about three years now. We paid her a huge sum of money before she started working for us.”
“Yes ma. She told me,” Joyce quickly chipped in joyfully.
“That notwithstanding, we are paying her on monthly bases. She has gotten enough money to establish herself. So, we have to help another person too. But we have to be sure that the person really needs help.” Mrs. Smith purposely said that to get information from Joyce.
“I really need help ma. My father is dead. The only person I have is my poor mother and younger ones. Please help me.”
“No problem, we will surely help you. First, we can give you money . You can invest it by buying land in the village or you send one of your brothers to any African country. We can assist you to do that. We must ensure that you invest the money before you start working for us.
The reason is that if you invest the money well, we will have opportunity to help other people.”
