Deadly Handover (Episode 9)
When I got home, I could not get my mind off everything Johnson said. He seems to know a lot. Although, I found it hard to believe him, yet he sounded so sure of what he was saying. I don’t want to make a mistake and end up without a child. If my memory did not fail me I could not remember any member of my family that was barren. I never wanted to be the first to carry such stigma. My phone beeped and it was a text message from Jane. I have been deleting all the messages that she has been sending without reading them. I decided to read through this one and discovered that she was trying to convince me of her undying love for me.
“Johnson told me to give this girl a chance. Maybe I should listen to him,” I thought.
I decided to call her phone to hear what she had to say. Maybe that would convince me to give her another chance.
“Hello dear,” Her voice sounded from the other end of the line.
“Hello Jane, what do you want from me? Why are you disturbing me?”
“I’m so sorry for the disturbance. I want us to meet and talk.”
“It’s alright. Can you meet me now at Grace Restaurant?”
“I will do that right away,” she replied.
“This girl is not bad after all. I am the one that has been judging her unfairly. She is humble, straight forward and understanding. Unlike these girls in the church who are always nagging. Some of them think that they are doing you a favour by agreeing to marry you. If you propose marriage to them, they will use one year to pray before giving a response that may not even be favourable. Anyway, this is good riddance to bad rubbish. I will forever be grateful to Johnson for opening my eyes,” I told myself.
I quickly dressed up and headed for Grace Restaurant. Jane was already there before my arrival.
‘Another plus for her,’ I thought.
I took my sit beside her and ordered for some alcoholic drinks. That was Jane’s favourite. Though I have stopped taking alcoholic drinks since I started following Mummy to church, I had to join her in taking it, just for her to be happy.
“Jane, I am here. What do you want from me?”
“Please dear, I have really missed you. Remember the promise we made to each other when we met. That is why I have been waiting. My instincts told me you will surely come back to me. It is not that other men have not been approaching me for a relationship, but I promised myself that I will not cheat on you.”
“You mean that you have never cheated on me,” I asked in a surprise tone.
“Why will I cheat on you? Since you left me, have I not been disturbing you? If I have another man, I would have ignored you. Please, I want us to start all over again. If I offended you, please forgive me.”
I was touched by her words. The truth is that she never offended me. Since we started this relationship, I have been the bad boy; she always toed the path of peace.
“It’s alright. I have heard you. How will we be meeting? I don’t want you to come to my house. It’s not that I have a hidden agenda, I don’t want my mum to see us.”
“I understand your plight. But then, you are the one to suggest where we will be meeting. You are the man.”
When she said that, I smiled. That is one thing I love about her. She recognizes my authority
as the man and respects it.
“Let’s be meeting at Lines Hotel every Thursday night. What do you think?”
“Your wish is my command, my Lord,” She replied with a bow.
