Mercy just entered the house. She met her roommate lying down on the bed. Immediately mercy entered, she flashed her a smile.

“Gina, this your smile is carrying weight o, what is going on?”

” My dear, a miracle just happened. I want you to guess”

“Gina I am very hungry. ” She dropped her handbag and carried her pot of rice to the centre of the room. She sat and started eating.

“Mercy what is wrong with you. Don’t you have plates again?”

“Gina you won’t understand. I don’t have the patient to dish this rice into a plate. Besides, it is too small”

“But you are yet to guess what is making me happy?” Gina ranted happily.

” Okay , let me guess, Your parents just sent money to you.”

“You are wrong. I will give you another chance,” Gina told her.

“Hmm! Someone dashed you money,” Mercy guessed again.

“No, no, no,” Gina said amidst laughter.

“Your uncle is sending money to you.”

“You are wrong again,” Gina told her.

“Gina please allow me to eat my food,” Mercy protested mildly.

“Anyway the gist is that we have gotten the ticket to attend, Iyabo’s day party. Yipee!” Gina announced happily.

“How?”

“She brought the access card here, by herself. She told me the we are highly invited. My dear, we have joined the big girls on campus”

Mercy didn’t utter any word. She continued eating her food.

” Mercy, you are not excited, what is going on?”

“My dear, you shouldn’t have accepted the invitation,” Mercy said firmly.

“Why? What is wrong with celebrating with a neighbor?”

“I don’t have anything against Iyabo. She has been nice to us. The challenge is her friends; especially her room mate. I don’t want us to be humiliated Another is that their lifestyle is different from ours. We have not been attending this kind of party so we don’t even know how it is going to be. Remember that the bible said that we should not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.”

“Mercy, you have started with this your holier than thou attitude. You know that it pisses me off. If you separate yourself from unbelievers , how will you preach to them?”

“That is not the issue here. You know that I relate with everyone; I don’t discriminate. The last time that Iyabo was sick, I took her to the hospital and stayed with her till her friends came. I laugh and joke with everyone in this compound. But this birthday party is a different case. It is not open for everyone, so we might not know how it will go.”

“There is nothing to worry about. It is a normal party. It’s just for us to go there, eat and drink.”

“I’m not convinced. I still need to think about it.”

“I don’t know what you are thinking about but don’t make the mistake of telling Iyabo that you are not going. This is a golden opportunity of meeting big girls; I will not want to miss it”

They heard a knock on the door.

“Come in, the door is not locked,” Gina Said.

Ruby walked in with excitement and greeted , “Hello girls”

“Hello Rubby” they greeted.

“Girls, I have a good news. I have finally secured a ticket to watch Painful Wish in Cinema”

“Wow! God when? Do you know that since I was born, I have not been to the cinema.” Gina said sadly.

“My dear, your turn will come. Just calm down,” Ruby encouraged her.

“But how did it happen?”

“You remember the exchange of gifts we did in the class, the person that picked my name got the ticket for me.”

“Have you seen it. The idiot that picked my name have not reached out to me till now. I used my last card to buy gifts for the person I picked her name. Anyway, I have decided on what to do. I will never participate in that nonsense again,” Gina said in anger.

“Gina, please calm down. I understand how you feel. It is not fair that you have not received any gift till now. But I still believed that it is not too late. Ruby just received hers. You can never tell what the person is preparing for you,” Mercy pleaded with her.

“I have heard you. Is it when I die and enter grave that the person will bring it,” Gina snapped.

“Gina! Talk like a child of God for once.” Mercy rebuked her.

“Please shut up! Call a spade a spade. That you are a child of God does not mean that you should take nonsense. Please stop patronizing me.” Gina snapped angrily.

“But Mercy, what Gina is saying is correct. A child of God is still a human being,” Ruby said.

“Don’t mind her. Can you believe that our neighbour invited us for a birthday party that will be holding in a high class event centre. Mercy is suggesting that we should not attend because she is not our church member.”

“Ha! I never said so. You are quoting me wrongly.” Mercy protested.

“Please, I want to be there. Can I have the access card?” Ruby pleaded.

“Yes, you can have mine,” Mercy told her.
