Negative Touch (Episode 10)
One of the issues that elder Femi held strongly against Pastor was concerning men of God that were being invited for programmes. There was an evangelist believed to be so powerfully used by God. Churches around have been inviting him in revival programmes. Many of the members have heard about him, and wished that he should be invited. Almost all the elders were interested in having him around.
In one of the church elders meeting, they were having discussion concerning their January prayer programme. Elder Femi decided to bring up the issue.
“Sir , we have heard the name of the Evangelists and Pastors you want to invite for the programme. They are good. But I have a little challenge with some of them.
Some are already getting old. Some are not really gifted. What we need are powerful vibrant and young men of God who have eyes and can see. We need people that can shake the church. Sometimes we complain that our youths are leaving us. Some of these things contribute to their leaving. They go to the churches where this men of God are or where they are invited to conduct revival and prayer programmes. Please let us invite men of God who God will use to move us to the next level spiritually, financially and materially.”
“Femi you are right. Let us invite new evangelists. All the people mentioned in the list are from our denomination. It must not be so. Let’s search far and wide and bring prophets who can prophesy into our lives so that we can prosper.” Elder Gad added.
“Let’s invite prophet Mike. That prophet is a powerful man of God. A church that is very close to my house invited him and it was miracle galore.
The blind saw, the lame walked. HIV patients were healed. My tenants child was denied visa to travel abroad. During the programme, the prophet prophesied that the visa will be granted. Today, he is in United States of America. Do you know that a woman that had been carrying pregnancy for three years was delivered of the baby, in that programme. We need such a man,” elder Femi concluded.
“I have heard about all the miracles that God has been performing through that man, I think that we should do all within our power to bring him to our church,” elder Kehinde said.
“Perfectly said. We have to try our best to ensure that he comes. That man is loaded spiritually. He also know the word of God. His word of knowledge are always accurate.
He told my neighbor the exact date and time that she would give birth. She was somehow in doubt because that was different form the hospital’s EDD (Expected Date of Delivery). Now let me shock you. The woman said that there was no sign of labour. She just went to urinate, and the baby came out. And that was the exact date, hour and minute that the prophet prophesied. That man must come to our church. In fact he is already here. Sir please you have to do everything within your power to bring him to us,” elder Monday pleaded.
“I have heard everything you said. Actually, in my ministry, there are procedures I take before inviting anyone to preach on my pulpit. I must pray and be convinced before I hand over my pulpit to anyone.
I have heard about this man of God that you are talking about. He is not our member. But that notwithstanding, I will not throw away all the suggestions we have made here.
It is obvious that you all want him. I will pray about him. If I am convinced to invite him, I will do so in our subsequent progammes. For this particular programme, I have already prayerfully chosen the men of God that will come. That does not mean that if you have any tangible reason for any of them to be dropped, it will not be considered. But I don’t think that some of the reasons we are giving here is saleable. None of the men in the list is up to 60 years. Their age ranges from 35 to 55. So, I don’t see where the issue of old age comes in. Another is that we should always consider men of God that knows our doctrine; not those that will bring strange teachings. As I had said earlier, I will pray about it and give you feedback,” Pastor responded.
“Thank you sir. We will be expecting your favourable response. However, the will of God is still paramount to us. We will always go wherever and however he leads,” Elder Paul said.
“Sir, I am not really comfortable with your response. Are you trying to tell us that as elders of the church we don’t have the right to choose an evangelist that will come for programme in our church? Our own shouldn’t be different. The elders in other churches enjoy these privileges,” elder Femi told Pastor.
“Elder Femi, you don’t have the right to choose but you have the right to suggest. By the time you suggest, we all will put heads together and deliberate on it. Then we agree according to the leading of the Holy spirit. We cannot have two captains in one ship,” Pastor told him.
“Sir. I’m sorry to say this but sincerely speaking, I don’t think that you have the interest of this church at heart. You don’t really care about our welfare. It is only about yourself, your pride and ego. You don’t want to invite some men of God because you want to protect your pride as the one in charge.
Sir, you have to give way so that your members will prosper. We are no longer comfortable with your style of leadership,” elder Femi blurted out.
“Elder Femi listen to me. I don’t really understand your interest in this issue. I am the one that God send to this church not you. I am answerable to God concerning whatever happens here. I don’t know what made you to conclude that I don’t have the interest of this church at heart. Did God reveal that to you or you just concluded on your own. You have to be careful. My ministry is unique. I am not competing with anybody. Neither am I intimidated by anyone. If you humble yourself to God under this ministry, there is nothing you want that God will not do for you. That is the covenant I have with God. But if you undermine God and his servant under this ministry, you are caging your destiny. You want to cause problem for me. You bring whoever you see to come and lay hands on my members. By the time any damage is done you leave it for me and go back to your house.
Please be warned. Your activities are becoming questionable. I am aware of how you have been inciting members against me. I leave you for the God who called me. He is a righteous judge.”
