A man and his wife have been  married for a couple of years but have not given birth.  All of a sudden, the man’s character changed. He quarrelled with everything the  woman said or did.  

When the woman could no longer endure the man’s maltreatment, she reported the issue to her husband’s elder brother, when he visited them.

“Sir, please help me talk to my husband. I don’t know how I offended him. He is always angry with me. I have tried to find out what the matter is, but he didn’t tell me,” Cynthia narrated 

“Is it true, Mr Charles asked his brother,”

“Why are you asking for the obvious? Have I not tried? This is the fifth year since we got married. There had been no miscarriage not to talk of having a child. I am tired of the marriage,” Mr. Uzo answered.

“Have you people sought solutions?” Mr. Charlse asked.

“Yes, she has been taking herbs. All the women that took the herbs with her have given birth”

“Have you tried running a test in the hospital?”

“No, we have not.”

“I will suggest you try the hospital, let’s know what the outcome will be.”

Mr. Uzo and his wife decided to visit the hospital. When they got to Better Life hospital, they picked a card and were waiting to see the doctor.

When Nurse Blessing was examining Cynthia, she asked why she came to the hospital.

“It’s concerning childbirth. I have been married for 5 years. My brother in law suggested that I should come to the hospital”

“If that is the case we have to run  tests on both you and your husband to know where the challenge is coming from,” Nurse Blessing told Cynthia.

“Did you say my husband too?”Cynthia asked.

“Yes, the problem could be from him.”

“Ha! If he hears that, he will be angry. Please don’t tell him,”Cynthia pleaded .

Before she concluded the statement, Nurse Blessing had already called for Mr. Uzor.

“Sir please come nearer, ” Nurse Blessing beckoned Mr. Uzor.

“Your wife just informed me that both of you are here because of the issue of infertility. She wants us to run a test on her. But I told her that we will run the test on both of you.”

“Bia nwa nurse, What kind of insult is this ? How can you tell Odogwu like me that kind of  thing? Does it look like I am not a complete man!”

“Don’t be offended sir, but infertility is not a feminine thing. It could either be from the man or the woman.”

Nurse Eliza, came out, overheard the discussion and decided to support Mr. Uzor.

“Infertility is not in my lineage. My mother gave birth to 10 children,”Mr Uzor explained

“If that is the case, then it is not your fault.” Nurse Eliza chipped.

“Eliza!” Nurse blessing  called, “Please go back to your duty post.”

“Point of correction, I am nurse Eliza. If you need to know, this is my duty post. How can you say that this man is the reason for childlessness?  A man that is healthy like this. Spec umu nwa.He even said that his mother gave birth to 10 children. Blessing, even if you are blind, at least, you are not deaf. Look at him and his wife, can’t you see whose fault it is?”

“Who do you think is at fault?” Blessing asked.

“It is the wife. Why is she so fat? The fat in her body has blocked the fallopian tube. That is why she cannot conceive,”Eliza explained.

Tears gathered in Cynthia’s eyes and were flowing.

“It’s not the issue of crying o. Start exercising. Each morning, run from Ojota to Agric Bus stop in Ikorodu. Then turn and run  to 3rd mainland bridge,”Eliza advised.

“Eliza, if I hear one more word from you, I will report you to the doctor,” Nurse Blessing threatened.

“I will not talk again. It’s not because of your threat. It’s because I have other patients to attend to,” she turned to leave.

“Thank you so much Nurse” Mr. Uzor appreciated her.

“Nurse Eliza, sir.” Eliza told him.

“Okay, Nurse Eliza. I would like to see the doctor. I don’t think that this lady here is qualified”

“Don’t worry sir. I will take you to the doctor,” Eliza replied.

When Mr.Uzor and his wife met the doctor, he convinced him that a test needed to be run on him. Mr. Uzor was reluctant at first, but later he agreed.

When the test was out it was discovered that Mr. Uzor had a low sperm count. so the problem was from him. He apologized to his wife for accusing her wrongly. 

Mr. Uzor and his wife were seated waiting for his medication.  Nurse Eliza went to to greet him but he ignored her.

“Sir, I am greeting you. Madam, I am greeting you too,”Eliza informed them.

“Must I respond to your greeting? Are you here to work or to greet” Mr. Uzor shouted at her.

“I am here to work. I want to attend to you and madam sir.”

“You cannot attend to us. Where is Nurse Blessing? If she is not available, we will wait for other qualified nurses,” Cynthia told her.

“I don’t understand. What can’t I attend to you?”

“Eliza or whatever you call yourself, leave my presence before I unleash my anger on you. Did you not hear that my wife said you cannot attend to us?”

Eliza left him and was murmuring

“Abeg carry your wahala go. Na me do you? It’s not your fault. It is Chike that caused this. If he did not disappoint me, at least I would have been somebody’s wife too.”
