Ijeoma’s husband  could not believe what he heard. He couldn’t understand why his wife could behave in that manner but he continued to beg the doctor

“Please  help me. She never told me all these. Help save her life and that of the baby. “

“My challenge is that I don’t know her state and that of the baby at this point. I don’t want my hospital to record casualties that  I don’t know anything about.”

“Doctor, I am not expecting you to perform a miracle, just do your best.”

The doctor directed the nurses to get things ready for CS. He also revealed that it was an emergency case and mentioned the person involved.

The nurses were wondering what could have led to the emergency situation.

“When I was going through her medical file the last time she came. Doctor wrote that the baby is in breech position. He also recommended a CS. Since then, I have not seen her,”Nurse Blessing revealed

“Could it be that she has been sick?” Nurse Ella asked.

“Even if she is sick, is the hospital not the best place for her to come?”Nurse Blessing responded.

“She might have followed the advice of some hospital cleaners parading themselves as nurses.” Nurse Cynthia said and smiled bitterly.

Eliza was so shocked that what she was holding fell from her hand.

“If you spoil anything there , you will pay o. I have not even grinded beans and the aroma akara fills the air. You better hold those equipment  well,” Nurse Cynthia continued saying .

“Cynthia, what are you saying? You are speaking in parables ” Nurse Ella asked.

“Don’t worry, you will understand me at the right time,” Nurse Cynthia responded.

The nurses continued the discussion concerning Ijeoma but Eliza behaved as if she was not hearing what they were saying. She was praying that no evil would befall Ijeoma.

“Eliza, you are so cold. I hope you know that who we are talking about is Ijeoma?”Nurse Ella asked.

“Please, leave me alone, let me think about my life. Ijeoma is lucky that she has gotten married and is already pregnant. Look at me  , no man is looking in my direction. They are not even  noticing that I exist.”

“How does that concern what we are saying

now” Nurse Ella asked.

“Ella please leave me alone. I don’t have time for trouble today,” Eliza begged.

“Hei. Eliza wants to marry. Come let me connect you to my grandfather,” Nurse Cynthia mocked and all of the nurses busted out laughing.

They expected Eliza to lash out on Cynthia but she was unusually quiet.

“Situation report, Cynthia- 1, Eliza- 0. Let the fight start” Nurse Ella said in order to encourage Eliza to fight back.

Eliza left them and walked away.

“Are you guys sure that everything is okay with Eliza? ” Nurse Blessing asked.

“How can she be fine? Her sins has found her out. Besides, she is trying to avoid having trouble with me. She thinks that she is smart but she cannot outsmart me. She was the one that advised Ijeoma not to have her baby through cesarean section”

“What! No wonder  she has not been herself since the doctor told us what was going on. Cynthia please keep this to yourself, don’t allow doctor to hear about it,”Nurse Blessing begged.

“Then warn her to respect herself .If she does anyhow, she will see anyhow.” Nurse Cynthia threatened.

When they brought Ijeoma to Better Life hospital, she was already unconscious. Doctor Bernard hurriedly conducted a caesarian section on her.

 To the glory of God, the mother and child were saved.

 Throughout the period that Ijeoma Was still unconscious, Nurse Eliza was in the ward , taking care of the baby. She assisted Ijeoma’s relatives in all the ways she could.

When Ijeoma became a bit stronger, Eliza went to her to plead for forgiveness.

“IJ please I am sorry. Forgive me for the advice I gave. I never meant to harm you or the baby. Please forgive me,”

“It’s okay . It is not your fault. I should take the bulk of the blame. Upon my education and exposure, how could I believe what you said? I should have known better.”

“Please forgive me. Don’t report me to the doctor. I can come to the house when I’m not on duty to clean your house or do other house chores for you.”Eliza offered.

“I don’t have anything against you. But  I have someone that takes care of my house chores. Don’t bother yourself. My husband told me how you took care of the baby while I was unconscious, I appreciate it. Thank you.” 

Whenever Eliza went to where other nurses were, Cynthia would mock her, 

“Olodo nurse, it is not only baby sitting that you will do, You will also follow her home to do house help. Of course that is the work that fits you. Time of spoiling our record is over.”

“Cynthia what is it? Please leave her alone.” Nurse Blessing begged.

“I will never leave her alone. Eliza go and buys food for me,” she commanded.

The nurses were waiting for Eliza’s reaction but she quietly went to meet Cynthia.

“Take this plate, wash it very well, then go and buy rice and meat for me.” She handed over the plate and some money to Eliza. She collected it and left.

“Cynthia, this is getting out of hand. You must stop at this point,” Nurse Ella told her.

“I should  stop what? You are joking. Eliza must go in for this. After humiliating her, I will still report her to doctor Bernard. I can’t wait to see her kicked out of this hospital.”

“Cynthia this is wickedness and you know it. We have been begging you to let this slide but you refused. You kept blackmailing her.”

“You called me a wicked person. It’s okay, I will teach both you and Eliza a bitter lesson,”Nurse Cynthia

She got up and attempted to go to Dr. Bernard’s office.

“Please don’t do it,” Nurse Blessing begged.

“There is no need begging. Nothing will stop me,” Nurse Cynthia replied as she kept moving towards Dr . Bernard’s office.
