Ese kept insisting that her husband must be brought while the DPO tried to explain to her to give them some time.

Later, the DPO had to comply to Ese’s request because she looked frustrated. But first, Ese had to put a call across to one of her mother’s sister to come and carry her.

When they brought him out, he attempted kneeling down to apologize to Ese but she looked away. The policemen force fully dragged him up and forced him to sit.

“We brought you here to tell her why you killed her brother not to beg for forgiveness,” one of the policemen told them.

“I don’t have anything to say,” Donatus said arrogantly.

The policemen looked at themselves and smiled.

“This is why I wanted you to go so that we can prepare him for the confession. Any way they will take him away and prepare him so that he will not waste your time.” The DPO told Ese.

Immediately they took him out, Ese started hearing his voice,” Hei! Ha! Hmm! Please…… I will confe………….ss. Hmm! Eeeeeeeeeee! O oo………..! I will confess…….ooo”

It was hard for Ese to withstand the effect of the voice. She begged the DPO that she want to go home and they obliged her.

The journey from the police station to home was a boring one for Itohan and Ese. They didn’t talked to each other. As soon as they got home, Itohan Informed Ese that she needed to take her leave.

“Why the sudden decision to go. Is it because…?” Ese couldn’t complete her statement before she broke down in tears.

“It is necessary that I go. There is nothing to stay for. The person that brought me here is gone. The pregnancy that facilitated my being here is also gone. What I’m I waiting for? ”

“Please stay with me Ese begged.”

“No ma. I cannot stay. It is not okay for my mental health. I need to leave this environment in order for me to recover. I will advise that you do same too.”Itohan told her.

That night Ese could not sleep. She kept wondering what could have made her husband commit such crime.

Early in the morning, she quickly ran back to the police station.When they brought out her husband, she could hardly recognize him. His face has patches of burnt as if he was slapped with a metal iron. Both eyes were red and swollen. One part of his mouth was broken too.

The sight nearly broke Ese’s heart. But when she remembered the kind of crime he committed. She became hardened.

“Listen, you are going to repeat the things you told us If you skip any, what we will do to you will be worse than what happened to you yesterday,” the policeman warned Donatus.

“Nooo… Don’t do anything to me. I am ready to confess. I will say everything.” Donatus replied in tears.”

“Alright, go ahead and talk we are listening.”
Tears filled Ese’s eyes.

“Before I married Ese, I have a lady who has already given birth to a male child for me.”

“What! Donatus, What did you just say,” Ese shouted in shock.

“Madam please calm down. We understand how you feel. But if you continue like this, you will not get the information you need.”the policeman told Ese.

He turned to Donatus, ” Criminal! Continue with what you were saying.

Donatus was not happy with what the police man called him but fear didn’t allow him to show it. He reluctantly continued with what he was saying.

” I married Ese because of her money. My plan was to collect her money and ran away. I thought that it was going to be easy but I didn’t know that Ese also has her own plans.
It was after we got married that I discovered that most of her property were bought in her brother’s name. I was not happy about it and I told her.”

Ese interrupted him.

“You told me what? May Satan punish you hundred times. Are you the one that gave me money to buy the properties? Is it your father s property?”

The policemen started begging Ese. After a while, she calmed down. Her husband was told to continue the narration.

“I was ready to do anything to ensure that I would inherit her properties.”

“What do you mean by ‘ you are ready to do anything’? If you had the means to kill her, would you have done it?”the policeman asked.

“Hmm! Maybe….. Though my initial plan was not to kill her but when she started proving stubbon, I was ready to do anything,” Donatus answered.

“Hei! So I have been living with my enemy. So Eric died my death?” Ese wept uncontrollably.

The policeman signalled Donatus to continue talking. As he delayed, one of the policemen hit a side of his mouth and he cried out in pain. He quickly started talking.

” I was jealous of the kind of love that Ese had for his brother. Because of that, I went to a native doctor to complain. The native doctor asked what I wanted, and I told him that I want Eric to be useless. It was afterwards that Eric started misbehaving and squandering his sister’s money. He sleeps with anything on skirt. I thought that would make Ese to hate him but it didn’t work. It was at that point that I told Ese to change all the documents of her properties to our name but she refused. I even told her to change it to our first daughter’s name but she refused too. After Eric sold the car that her sister bought for him and squandered business money. Ese was so angry and stopped taking care of him. However immediately he brought the girl he wanted to marry every thing changed. The love returned. Her plan was to establish the girl and hand over the things she bought for Eric to her. I ran back to the native doctor to help me kill the girl. But all attempts failed. She had a friend that was praying for her, so I became frustrated. The only thing remaining were the cars and the house we were living in because my name and hers were in the document.”

Ese interrupted him,

“Officer I am confused. Everything happening here is like a nightmare. I travelled with this man. We went for a wedding ceremony. How and when did he leave that place? Is he a human being or a spirit? If he is a human being, how did he leave that place and was able to commit this crime and come back. Yet I didn’t notice that he left.”Ese asked.
