Unworthy Ambassador (Episode 16)
“Kingsley, why have you been rejecting all the opportunities, that could uplift you. First, you refused to take up employment in church as a singer which is how most singers are surviving. Another opportunity came for you to be gainfully employed, you still rejected it. What is your plan?”
“Lawson please permit me answer your question with another question.”
“Go ahead, I am listening.”
“I want you to examine the doctrines of our church. Do we not have the right doctrine?”
“Our doctrine is one of the best. It will help a sincere believer to make heaven.”
“Now let’s come over to our pastor. Consider his bible teachings, his lifestyle and even that of his household. Is there anything in him that suggests ungodliness?”
“Pastor is a child of God. He is truly called.”
“Then why is it that every lifting that comes my way must be attached with the condition of leaving the church. People are getting job employment and they are not asked to change church. Why must my own be different. No one wants invite me as a guest artist though they testify that I am a good singer. All they want is for me to become their member.”
“Are you saying that it is a sin for you to be a member of another church?”
“I never said so. But before I will leave my present church for another denomination, it must be by God’s leading. I am waiting on God. I know he has plans for me.”
“Sorry to say this, it seems that God is taking time in your case. Bros you are suffering can’t you see it. You need urgent attention.”
“I beg to disagree with you on this. God is always on time. His plan and timing is perfect. All I need is patience. Sometime in the past, I thought that God had forgotten me. Now, I have a different perspective.”
“Really,” Lawson said in a mockery tone.
“Of a truth, God is working out something great for me. Let me remind you of the story in the book of Mark 5:22-43 Jairus, one the rulers of the Synagogue came to plead with Jesus to come and heal his daughter. Note that this daughter of Jairus was sick to the point of death. The bible recorded that as Jesus was moving, people thronged him. All of a sudden, Jesus abandoned the emergency case he was going to attend to, turned around and start asking of who touched him. Why will our Lord ask such question when he knew that multitudes had flocked around him. Even his disciples did not hesitate to point that out to him. If you were Jairus, what would be your conclusion?”
“I think that Jairus would have concluded that Jesus is applying a delay tactics because he does not want to help him.”
“Thank you for that answer. But was that the case? A great miracle of healing the woman with the issue of blood had just been performed. No one noticed except Jesus. Let me relate it to my case. What everyone is seeing is that God has not blessed me with riches. But he keeps me alive, protects me and gives me good health. Some of my mates are dead; some other people have been in the hospital since the beginning of this year. A little voice disorder can make my voice not to function again but God has not allowed such to happen to me. Have you heard of Laryngitis, vocal cord paralysis or even spasmodic dysphonia? If any of this should happen to me, I can’t sing. Yes it can be cured, if diagnosed early, but do I have the financial capacity? God has not allowed any of this sickness to come near me. Sometimes people will ask me the secret of my angelic voice. I always tell them that it is God. You and I know that I am not doing anything special, to maintain the voice. Has God not done something for me?”
“My dear brother, God has done a lot. I have blasphemed; I need to ask for forgiveness from God.”
“Let’s go back to the story of Jairus. It was as if the worst had happened when someone informed him of his daughter’s death. But it presented another opportunity for Jesus to prove his mastership over death. For Jairus and his family, it was freedom from fear. They had seen it all. Sickness and death will no longer pose a threat for them. That was because Jesus could intervene, even in the worst situation. I have concluded that the longer God takes to attend to me, the greater the things he is preparing for me. I will never give up on God. I am sure he will not give up on me.”
“This is food for thought. Your presentation can convert even an unbeliever. I must commend you for your unwavering faith. I pray that God upholds you.”
